What is the Harley Owner's Group?
The Harley Owner's Group was started in 1983 by the Harley-Davidson® Motorcycle Company to bring Harley owners together in a group setting to provide better opportunities to promote safe riding, provide a platform for exchanging ideas, and to enhance the motorcycling experience for everyone.
How do I join the Club?
To be a member of the Erie Canal Chapter, you must first join National Harley Owner's Group. If you have just purchased a new Harley-Davidson® from H-D® of Utica, CONGRATULATIONS - your first year of National Membership has been paid for by H-D® Utica. Now all you need to do is to complete a Chapter Membership Form (available here for downloading, or at the parts counter) and pay the Chapter annual dues of $15.00. If you already had a Harley and want to join, you must first join the National Harly Owner's Group. When you receive your National H.O.G.® Welcome Package it will contain your H.O.G.® National Membership Card. You can then fill out the form for your local H.O.G.® Chapter using your National Membership number. After your Membership form has been received, you will receive our e-mails and Chapter Newsletters and also one Chapter Patch to put on your colors or jacket. You can then come to the Chapter meetings which are held (normally) on the first Wednesday of each month at the dealership, more on this below.
Who we are...
We are a group of individuals and who share both a passion for riding a motorcycle and have chosen Harley-Davidson motorcycles as our bike/trike of choice. We come from all walks of life, backgrounds, races and creeds. We are non-political (except when it comes to laws that affect the use and operation of motorcycles).
What we do...
We have monthly meetings at Harley-Davidson® of Utica on the first Wednesday of each month, unless it conflicts with an H-D® Utica event. These meetings start with a general gathering and meal at 6:30 PM. The business portion of the meeting begins around 7:00 PM. At these meetings we discuss plans for group rides and general business matters related to the Chapter.
We have dinners at 6:00 PM at the 99 Restaurant the third Wednesday of each month where we can get together in a less formal setting and get to know each other.
We also have dart competitions during the off season (January thru April) as another group activity.
We have enjoyable, group rides to various and interesting destinations. Longer rides are scheduled on the weekends. We have shorter rides to bike nights in the area generally every other week. Chapter members are always welcome to suggest a ride on open dates to an interesting destination, even if it is just ice cream or lunch, but these need to be authorized by our Board.
We and Harley-Davidson® support rider training which can get you discounts on your insurance and may be partially reimbursed by H-D.
We support charitable causes. We advise the members of upcoming rides in the newsletter. We specifically support the Neighborhood Center of Utica with donations, toys and books/learning materials, as well as, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
We also have an annual ride and picnic in September at a mutually chosen location.
How we do it?
We do it together. Please join with us to promote safe and enjoyable motorcycling experiences.
